If someone took your money, an asset or access to an account, focus first on limiting further harm and preserving the details. You do not need to know the person’s real name before documenting what happened. ScamBoard gives you a place to search similar experiences and share your own.
If you sent money, contact the provider promptly
Use the bank, card issuer or payment service’s official app, website or published phone number. Explain the transaction and ask what reversal or dispute options are available. Keep receipts and reference numbers. Options depend on the payment method and circumstances; posting a story does not request or guarantee a refund.
If you shared a password or wallet secret
Change an exposed account password through the official service and enable two-factor authentication where available. If you reused that password, change it elsewhere too. A leaked wallet recovery phrase needs wallet-specific security steps; a password change alone is not enough. Follow your wallet provider’s official instructions and do not share the phrase again.
Save a clear timeline
Write down when the first contact happened, what was promised, how you paid or transferred an asset, and what happened afterward. Keep original messages and receipts privately. For a public post, redact unrelated personal information and explain your own observations rather than guessing a motive or identity.
Report the account and check for similar experiences
Use the reporting tools on the platform where it happened. Consider the appropriate local fraud-reporting or law-enforcement channel; the FTC’s ReportFraud service is a US resource. Separately, search ScamBoard using a known identifier or words from your experience. Community reports can provide context but do not replace official reporting.
Share the experience even when the loss was not money
A stolen NFT, a fake relationship or an attempted scam may not have a meaningful cash amount. On ScamBoard, loss information and identifiers are optional. Explain what happened and say clearly whether a loss occurred. Your public account can help another reader compare the same kind of approach.
Can ScamBoard get my money or account back?
No. ScamBoard is a community reporting and search platform. It does not recover funds, restore accounts or promise an investigation. Be cautious about anyone approaching you with a guaranteed recovery, especially if they ask for payment or access to your wallet.
